At a wedding in Hamzababa neighborhood of Ceylanpınar, Zemzem Özdemir, the sister of the bride, was seriously wounded by random gunshots fired into the air while she was on her way to collect her sister’s fallen veil. The bullet hit Özdemir in the chest and hit her and her 3-month-old baby in her belly. Despite emergency intervention, the baby died and Zemzem Özdemir lost her one-week struggle for life and died.
The incident took place on May 6, during a wedding in Hamzababa Neighborhood, when the bride was brought home. The moments when Zemzem Özdemir collapsed on the ground in a pool of blood during the halay was captured on cell phone cameras. When paramedics arrived at the scene, Özdemir was rushed to Ceylanpınar State Hospital. However, as her life was still in danger, she was taken to Harran University Research and Application Center.
She was transferred to the hospital. Unfortunately, despite all efforts, her baby could not be saved and Özdemir died.
Suspects C.K. and F.K., who were detained in connection with the incident, were referred to the judicial authorities. In the process that ended with the arrest of Fevzi Kara, the suspect named Cuma K. was released on judicial control conditions.
Zemzem Özdemir’s death was met with great sadness in Ceylanpınar. It was stated that preparations were being made for the burial of her body by her relatives. A gunman’s bullet killed the joy of a wedding and caused a tragic end by taking the lives of a mother and her baby.
