While an eruption occurred in Kanlaon Volcano in the Philippines, the alert level was increased in the region.

An eruption occurred at 18.50 local time at Kanlaon Volcano, located on the central island of Negros province in the Philippines. The alert level was increased after volcanic gas and ash reached up to 5 kilometers in the region.

In a statement made by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), it was announced that the alert level was raised to the second level due to volcanic activity at Kanlaon Volcano in the Negros Islands. In the statement, it was also reported that small-scale tectonic earthquakes were recorded in the region before the volcanic eruption.

Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol said, “The first eruptions are volcanic eruptions. However, it can turn into more dangerous magmatic eruptions.” Bacohol also said that as a result of the eruption, volcanic ash mixed with smoke and rose to the sky, so the public should wear masks.
On the other hand, in a statement made by the Negros State Government, citizens were warned to take precautions against ash precipitation and called on them to use masks outdoors.
