Fishermen in Samsun built a ‘floating coop’ in the sea for their baby ducks. Ducks living in a floating coop in the middle of the sea amaze those who see them.

Fishermen who spend their lives in Atakum district chose a different way to relieve their boredom and feed animals. Fishermen who wanted to feed ducks in the sea invented a floating coop in the sea to protect the baby ducks. The fishermen, who built the coop using pallets, crates, water drums and wire, have been feeding the baby ducks in the floating coop in the sea for 2 weeks.

“Floating duck eggs are different”

Expressing that watching the ducks in the floating coop in the sea gives him happiness, 74-year-old fisherman Kadir Aksoy said, “We feed our ducks in the floating coop in the sea. The idea of a floating coop suddenly came to our minds. We built a poultry house with a pool system in a floating coop. If people have such comforts, we said ‘why not’ for animals. There is feed, water, shade area and release section in the coop. 10 baby ducks live happily in the floating coop. They are already in a cool environment because they are in the middle of the sea. After 10 days, we will release them to the nature. The ducks in the coop are not wild but domestic ducks. We made the floating coop out of pallets, crates and barrels. 3 people completed the coop in a short time. Since I am a nature person, I enjoy seeing the ducks in the floating coop in the sea. Our ducklings are almost 2 months old. We will not give their eggs to anyone and we will not take them ourselves. If they want, they can lie down and raise and feed their own ducklings. It is certain that the floating duck egg will be different.”

Aksoy also added that they will create an area in the coop for the ducks, which will start to enter the water after 10 days, and they will mount an umbrella on the roof of the coop to create shade.
