More than 20 million students in primary and secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) will receive their report cards today and go on summer vacation.

More than 20 million students and nearly 1.2 million teachers in primary and secondary education institutions started classes on September 11, 2023 for the 2023-2024 academic year. The first semester break was held on November 13-17, 2023 and the second semester break was held on April 8-12.

The second semester, which started on February 5, will end today. Students will relieve the fatigue of education after today’s last bell.

In addition, for the first time this year, middle school students will receive newly designed report cards that will include their participation in social activities in addition to their grades.

This year, students with a new course average of 50 who fail at most 3 courses will be able to move to the next grade with responsibility. Students who fail 4 or more subjects in the 9th grade will now have to repeat the grade. The Turkish threshold score for passing a grade has also been raised to 70.

As of the start of the 2024-2025 academic year, the new curriculum prepared within the scope of the Turkey Century Maarif Model will be implemented gradually starting from pre-school, primary school 1st grade, middle school 5th grade and high school 9th grade.

Students will start classes on September 9, 2024 for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Free summer schools open

As of July 1, MoNE will open free summer schools in four areas: “sports”, “visual arts”, “music” and “informatics” for students at all levels starting from the 2nd grade of primary school.

In addition to summer schools, support and training courses for academic courses will be offered for students in the 8th grade of middle school and 11th-12th grade of high school.

Courses in secondary schools and secondary education institutions will be opened in centers determined by provincial and district central commissions. Students and trainees will not be charged for the courses.

Courses for graduates will be offered at public education centers.

The courses will start on July 1 and end on August 29. As of September 2, supplementary and training courses for the academic year will be opened.

Courses opened as part of the summer school will be scheduled after 13:30 and 5 days a week. The duration of the courses, which cannot be planned for more than 2 hours per day, will be no less than 4 weeks and no more than 8 weeks.
