Putin said he “does not want a ceasefire, but a permanent end to the war” and demanded Ukraine’s withdrawal from the four regions seized by Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced the conditions for peace ahead of the Peace Conference to be held in Switzerland. Putin stated that he wanted a lasting peace, not just a ceasefire, and made Ukraine’s withdrawal a condition. However, in a meeting with Foreign Ministry officials, he said that they had not been invited to the conference and that it would be difficult to find a solution without Russia’s participation.
Putin emphasized that the war could end if Ukraine withdrew from the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions and that they would ensure the safety of the Ukrainian troops. Putin also argued that Kiev should give up its NATO ambitions and stated that if the West and Ukraine reject the peace offer, the situation will turn against Ukraine and Russia’s future proposals will change.
The fact that Russia was not invited to the Ukraine Peace Conference to be held in Switzerland on June 15-16 highlights the tension in diplomatic relations and the difficulty of finding a solution at the conference.
