Le premier « Marathon du désert de Cappadoce » s’est tenu dans la ville de Goreme à Nevşehir et a débuté sur un parcours de 30 kilomètres.
Avec la participation d’environ 300 coureurs de 42 pays, les athlètes qui participeront à la course ont passé la nuit dans les tentes de la vallée de Kılıçlar, où se trouve la ligne de départ.
Le coup de sifflet du départ a retenti à 5h30 pour les athlètes qui ont commencé à se préparer dès les premières lueurs du jour.
The runners struggled to reach the finish line near the village of Çavuşin, passing through the valleys of Kılıçlar, Güllüdere, Kızılçukur, Aşk and Güvercinlik covered with fairy chimneys.
Cyril Gauthier, the owner of the organization, wished success to the athletes participating in the Cappadocia stage of the desert marathon, which they have been organizing for many years, in a statement to AA correspondent.
Stating that Cappadocia has a suitable geography for many sports branches, Gauthier said, « We have organized in Jordan, Egypt, Morocco before, this time we are in Cappadocia. Runners are very happy because this is a great place. We are very happy to be here. During the run in Cappadocia, there was an incredible view with hot air balloons. »
Within the scope of the organization, an award ceremony will be held at 14:30 in Göreme town.
