In Muğla, Hasan Bulut poured gasoline on his religiously married wife 36-year-old Hanife Yılmaz and set her on fire. Yılmaz, who was seriously wounded, died in the hospital where she was being treated.
While Bulut said that Yılmaz committed suicide, Bulut’s stepson, 16-year-old Halil A., who was interviewed, said, “My stepfather told my mother, ‘I will burn you and the house. When my brother and I went to the garden upon the scream, we saw our mother on fire. My stepfather was watching her burning with a smile. We put out the flame with the help of our neighbors. We hid the truth because Hasan Bulut threatened us with death and scared us.”
The incident in Muğla occurred on May 19 at around 22.00 on Hafız Gürül Street in Düğerek Neighborhood of Menteşe.
According to the news report in DHA, Hasan Bulut, an auto electrician, and his wife Hanife Yılmaz (36), a mother of 2 children, argued in the garden of their house for an unspecified reason.
Bulut poured gasoline in a bottle on her when the argument grew into a fight. Bulut then set Yılmaz on fire.
NEIGHBORS PUT OUT THE FLAME
Neighbors who heard the screams of Yılmaz, who was engulfed in flames, extinguished the flames. After the notification, police and health teams were dispatched to the scene.
HE DIED IN HOSPITAL
Yılmaz was taken to Muğla Training and Research Hospital by ambulance. Yılmaz, who was seriously injured, was transferred to Izmir Bozyaka Training-Research Hospital. Yılmaz died yesterday morning despite the interventions.
RELIGIOUSLY MARRIED WIFE: HE BURNED HIMSELF
Hasan Bulut, who was interviewed by the police, claimed that Hanife Yılmaz poured gasoline on herself and ignited her clothes with a lighter to kill herself. Within the scope of the investigation initiated by Muğla Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, the police took the statement of Halil A., the 16-year-old son of Hanife Yılmaz.
“WE SAW MY MOTHER ON FIRE”
Halil A. (16), whose statement was taken in the presence of a psychologist, said, “On the day of the incident, my stepfather and my mother argued in the garden while we were sitting in our house. My stepfather said to my mother, ‘I will burn you and the house’. When my brother and I went to the garden upon the scream, we saw our mother on fire.
“HE WAS WATCHING MY MOTHER BURNING WITH A SMILE”
My stepfather watched my mother burning with a smile. We put out the flame with the help of our neighbors. We hid the truth because Hasan Bulut threatened us with death and scared us.”
Detained Hasan Bulut was arrested at the courthouse.
