February 28th trial defendants’ amnesty decision was published in the Official Gazette. According to the decisions published in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the remaining sentences of the defendants in the February 28 case were abolished.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan lifted the remaining sentences of 14 convicts in the February 28 trial, including former generals Çevik Bir, Çetin Doğan, Erol Özkasnak, Fevzi Türkeri, Yıldırım Türker, Cevat Temel Özkaynak and Aydan Erol.
President Erdoğan’s decision on the lifting of the remaining sentences of 14 convicts due to permanent illness and old age was published in the Official Gazette.
Accordingly, the remaining sentences of former generals Çevik Bir, Çetin Doğan, Fevzi Türkeri, retired lieutenant general Yıldırım Türker, retired vice admiral Aydan Erol, retired major generals Erol Özkasnak and Cevat Temel Özkaynak, convicted in the February 28 case, were lifted due to permanent illness and old age.
On the other hand, the sentences of convicts Haci Sülük, Ali Efteraslan, Avni Yılmaz, Sevda Yüksel, Gülbey Sarıoğlu, Süleyman Tuna, Abdulhekim Yılmaz were pardoned on the same grounds.
The remaining sentences of the convicts were lifted in accordance with the provision of Article 104, paragraph 16 of the Constitution due to the Forensic Medicine Institution report stating that they were in a state of permanent illness, disability and old age.
