Board of Education approves new curriculum

Demirli made statements regarding the work carried out after the completion of the suspension process in which opinions and suggestions from the public regarding the new curriculum draft were received.

Prof. Dr. Cihad Demirli, Chairman of the Board of Education and Discipline, said: “All opinions and suggestions about the new curriculum draft were carefully evaluated by the Board of Education and Discipline. During the pending process of Turkey Century Education Model, 67 thousand 284 opinions and suggestions from education stakeholders were classified one by one.”

Prof. Dr. Cihad Demirli, Chairman of the Board of Education and Instruction of the Ministry of National Education, stated that all opinions and suggestions submitted for the Turkish Century Education Model were evaluated and reflected in the curricula as required by the principles of transparency, scientificity and participation, and that the new curriculum, which was discussed again, was approved by the Board of Education and Instruction.

Demirli made statements regarding the work carried out after the completion of the suspension process in which opinions and suggestions from the public regarding the new curriculum draft were received.

Reminding that the General Directorate of Secondary Education submitted the curricula of 9 courses and the common text, the General Directorate of Basic Education submitted the curricula of 10 courses, and the General Directorate of Religious Education submitted the curricula of 7 courses for public opinion and suggestion on April 26, Demirli stated that 67 thousand 284 opinions and suggestions were received during this period for the draft, which was suspended until May 10.

Stating that the draft was viewed 1 million 662 thousand 780 times during this period, Demirli said that 58 percent of the opinions and suggestions received were from teachers.

In this context, Demirli pointed out that 38 thousand 865 opinions and suggestions were received from teachers and said, “Non-governmental organizations, education platforms and other stakeholders of education who wanted to contribute to the new curriculum draft reported 28 thousand 419 opinions. The rate of these stakeholders was realized as 42 percent.”

Demirli said that one-third of the opinions received were on the common text and one-sixth on the pre-school education program.

“Opinions and suggestions were shared by the commissions”

Cihad Demirli shared the following information upon the question of how the opinions and suggestions submitted after the completion of the suspension process were evaluated:
“All opinions and suggestions submitted about the new draft curriculum were carefully evaluated by the Board of Education. Opinions and suggestions were shared with the commissions of the Presidency of the Board of Education and Discipline and the relevant general directorates every day during the pending process. The 67,284 opinions and suggestions received from education stakeholders were classified one by one. Within this framework, some general revisions were made to the curricula. The opinions and suggestions were evaluated and reflected in the curricula as required by the principles of transparency, scientificity and participation. The Turkish Century Education Model curricula for 26 courses regarding the new curriculum were discussed on the agenda of the Board on May 16-22. The new curriculum, which was discussed again, was approved by the Board of Education and Instruction.”

The new curriculum will be implemented gradually starting from pre-school, primary school 1st grade, middle school 5th grade and high school 9th grade from the next academic year.

The new curricula approved by the Board of Education and Discipline will be available on the Ministry’s website after the approval of the authority.
