Cocoa was the product with the highest price increase in May; decline in vegetables

After the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the inflation data for May, the products with the highest price increases and decreases last month were also announced. Cocoa was the product with the highest price increase by 15.51 percent. The product with the highest price decrease was recorded as vegetables.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), the price of cocoa (excluding cocoa products) increased by 15.51 percent last month. This was followed by men’s clothing with 12.03 percent and women’s clothing with 9.39 percent.

Other products with the highest price increases in May were delicatessen products and other meat varieties with 9.27 percent, coffee with 8.82 percent and pre-school education and primary education with 8.03 percent.

The biggest decrease was in vegetables

The highest price decrease last month was in vegetables (excluding potatoes and some tuber crops) with 12.14 percent. This was followed by intercity passenger transportation by road with 9.3 percent, eggs and egg-related products with 5.99 percent, fuels and oils for personal transportation vehicles with 3.11 percent, and liquid hydrocarbons with 1.45 percent.

According to TURKSTAT’s consumer prices index, the products with the highest monthly price increases in May and their rates of change compared to the previous month are as follows

Women’s clothing – 9.39
Charcuterie and other meat products – 9.27
Coffee – 8,82
Preschool and primary education – 8.03
Hotels, hostels and others – 7.26
Fresh fruits – 6.98
