Residents of a 5-storey apartment building in Erzurum experienced moments of fear when the stairs collapsed.
In an apartment building located on 2nd Dadaş Street in Abdurrahman Gazi Neighborhood, Yakutiye district, there was a sudden partial collapse in the stairs at noon. After the collapse that frightened the residents of the building, fire brigade, AFAD, 112 and police were dispatched to the scene. While the residents were quickly evacuated from the building, it was seen that some citizens did not want to use the stairs out of fear. The fire brigade teams then had to evacuate the families, especially those on the top floor, with the basket of the fire truck. A baby on the third floor of the building was also safely lowered down by the fire brigade personnel. The fearful looks of the apartment residents did not go unnoticed. Meanwhile, some citizens entered the building despite the warnings from time to time to take valuable items from their homes.
Natural gas and electricity were cut off and a tape was drawn to prevent anyone from entering the building. Authorities stated that the investigation into the stair collapse is ongoing and warned citizens to enter their homes.
