The couple Dilan and Engin Polat appeared before the judge for the first time about the fight they had with their neighbors in the house they lived in Çekmeköy before they were arrested. The complainant lawyers informed the court that they were withdrawing their complaint. Dilan Polat, who made a defense at the hearing, said, “Aren’t my lawyers there? I don’t know what to say. We reconciled. I didn’t hit anyone. It is not possible for me to hit a man anyway. I did not say anything insulting or threatening.”
Dilan Polat and Engin Polat were connected to the hearing held at Anadolu 35th Criminal Court of First Instance via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS). The lawyers of the parties were present at the hearing.
“I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO SAY”
Making her defense at the hearing, defendant Dilan Polat said, “Aren’t my lawyers there? I don’t know what to say. We reconciled. I didn’t hit anyone. It’s not possible for me to hit a man anyway. I did not say anything insulting or threatening. I am not pressing charges. I have no past enmity with the complainants. We had an argument just because of the parking lot. I did not enter the house of the complainants. It is already available in the camera footage. I do not accept the accusation. I want my acquittal.”
“THERE WAS ONE ASSAULT TO PROTECT MY WIFE”
At the hearing, defense Engin Polat said, “On the day of the incident, our friends came and were our guests. Mr. Metin pulled his car behind the car of his friend who wanted to go home. When our guest’s child got sick, we had to leave urgently. When my wife informed him about this situation, an argument broke out between them. While I was sitting inside, I heard my wife screaming. When I got up and went, I was told that someone was attacking and swearing at my wife inside the house. I then went towards Mr. Metin’s house. I did not see him on the road because I did not know him. I stopped at the threshold of the door and asked Metin’s wife where her husband was. There was no insult or threat to her. I went downstairs and saw that Metin and my wife were arguing and that Metin was making gestures towards my wife. I was worried when I saw that he was making gestures by hitting my wife’s chest with his hands, and in order to protect my wife, he was assaulted once. As can be seen from the videos, we did not have the opportunity to talk in any way. Therefore, I did not have the opportunity to insult or threaten him. I do not accept the accusation, I demand my acquittal.” When the judge said, “It is claimed that you entered the house,” Engin Polat said, “I did not enter the house, I was at the threshold of the door.”
NEIGHBOR GAVE UP HIS COMPLAINT
The complainant lawyers informed the court that their clients had withdrawn their complaints and asked for the case to be dropped. Announcing its interim decision, the court adjourned the hearing to June 14 for the submission of the reports on whether the child was taken to the hospital on the night of the incident as stated in the defendants’ defenses and for the complainants to be heard.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Dilan and Engin Polat couple organized a birthday party for Engin Polat on Tuesday, June 6 at their luxury complex in Çekmeköy. The parking lot was filled with the vehicles of the guests attending the party. Allegedly, neighbors who came home in the evening parked their vehicles behind Sıla Doğu’s vehicle. After a while, the child of one of the party attendees at the Polat family home became ill. Dilan- Engin Polat couple and their relatives left the house to take the child to the hospital and went outside to talk to the neighbors who parked in front of Sıla Doğu’s vehicle and to tell them to move their vehicles. Allegedly, Dilan Polat started insulting her neighbor who came out of her house. Then Dilan Polat tried to kick her neighbor. Engin Polat then ran into his neighbor’s house and threatened and swore at her. The woman who saw Engin Polat in her house called the police teams from KADES application. Shortly after, police teams arrived at the Polat couple’s house.
INDICTMENT
In the indictment prepared by Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, Dilan Polat was asked for 8 years and 4 months of imprisonment, while Engin Polat was asked to be sentenced to up to 11 years in prison.
