A fire broke out at an oil refinery in Erbil city of the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq.

A huge fire broke out in the evening at the refinery on the Erbil – Guyer road, which includes a fuel distribution facility and a pitch depot. Nearly ten fire brigades intervened to prevent the fire from spreading to the fuel tanks.

It is reported that the fire, the cause of which is not yet known, was extinguished by the fire brigades after great efforts.

It was learned that the drivers of many fuel vehicles left the scene to save their lives in the fire where no loss of life occurred.

While an investigation has been launched to find out the cause of the fire, Erbil Civil Defense Directorate has not yet made a statement about the cause of the fire.
