Trade Minister Ömer Bolat reported that the foreign trade deficit decreased by 34.4 percent to 36.8 billion dollars in the January-May period.

Minister Bolat shared on his social media account the foreign trade statistics for May announced by TURKSTAT.

Reminding that Turkey’s exports in May broke a record by reaching the highest monthly export level in the 100-year history of the Republic, Bolat stated that exports, which increased by 11.4 percent in May compared to the same month last year to 24.1 billion dollars, reached 260 billion dollars with an increase of 2.3 percent on an annual basis.

Bolat pointed out that the foreign trade deficit, which decreased by 6 billion dollars in the same period, decreased by 35 billion dollars on an annual basis to 87.1 billion dollars, and noted the following:

“In the first 5 months of the year, our exports of goods increased by 4.5 percent, while imports decreased by 9.3 percent in the same period. In the January-May period, our foreign trade deficit decreased by 34.4 percent to 36.8 billion dollars and is expected to decrease to 25 billion dollars when the current account balance data is announced in July. We would like to thank our exporters who play a major role in increasing our exports with their role and efforts in our country’s exports. As the Ministry, we will continue to work hand in hand with our exporters to accelerate the increase in export figures within the scope of the vision of the Turkish Century.”
