French President Emmanuel Macron announced his decision to dissolve the French National Assembly after failing to achieve the desired result in the European Parliament (EP) elections according to unofficial results.

French President Emmanuel Macron made a statement that shook the agenda after the EP elections. Macron, who did not get the result he wanted in the EP elections according to the unofficial results, said at a press conference, “I heard your message, I understand your concerns. I will not leave them unanswered. I have full confidence in our democracy” and announced that he decided to dissolve the National Assembly.

“Let the people have their say, there is nothing more republican than that,” Macron said, adding that the first round of elections will be held on June 30 and the second round on July 7.

Describing the rise of the far right as a danger for Europe, Macron said it was a serious and heavy decision, but he saw it as a sign of confidence in democracy. “The rise of the nationalists is a danger for our nation, for Europe and for France’s place on the world stage. The far right is the impoverishment of the French and the decline of our country.”

According to unofficial results, Rassemblement National is ahead

According to the unofficial results of the European Parliament elections, the far-right Rassemblement National party led by Jordan Bardella came first with 33 percent of the vote, President Macron’s party Renaissance represented by Valerie Hayer came second with 15 percent of the vote, and Raphael Glucksmann’s Socialist Party came third with 14 percent.
