Gendarmerie teams caught red-handed treasure hunters who were illegally digging for historical artifacts in Aydın’s Kuyucak district and pulled the suspects out of the pits one by one.
While Aydın, which has hosted many civilizations in the past, is almost an open-air museum with its ancient cities and ruins, Aydın Provincial Gendarmerie Command does not tolerate treasure hunters who make illegal excavations to find historical artifacts.
In this context, Kuyucak District Gendarmerie Command carried out a study to prevent the smuggling of historical artifacts. According to the information obtained, the teams reached the information that illegal excavation was carried out in the field belonging to a person in the area of Hafza Hatun Tomb in Kuyucak district Başaran Neighborhood Hisar locality.
Taking action, the gendarmerie teams caught 5 suspects named E.B., T.D., R.E., A.K. and S.B. red-handed while they were illegally digging for historical artifacts. The suspects, who suddenly saw the gendarmerie teams in front of them, were taken out one by one by the gendarmerie teams from the pits they dug while they were surprised. During the investigation in the region, various excavation materials and a quantity of drugs were seized in the vehicle used by the suspects.

Within the scope of the operation, the gendarmerie also checked the driver of the vehicle carrying the illegal excavation team and found him under the influence of drugs. The driver of the vehicle, S.B., was fined 37,65 TL for driving under the influence of drugs and stimulants and his driver’s license was confiscated for 5 years. A total of 5 suspects caught red-handed were detained and judicial proceedings were initiated against them.
