Google will invest $2 billion to develop its first data center and Google Cloud region in Malaysia, Alphabet announced.

The Malaysian government said the investment will advance Malaysia’s digital ambitions and that artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and other advanced technologies will help local industry move up the global value chain.

The data center and cloud region will be located at Sime Darby Property’s Elmina Business Park in central Selangor state, Google said in a statement.

“Malaysia and Google are collaborating to advance our joint work to create a supportive ecosystem for innovation and unlock the potential of digital transformation,” Google’s Chief Financial Officer Ruth Porat said in a statement.
