The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that the temporary port established for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, where Israel has continued its attacks since October 7, has been completed and aid will begin in a few days.
In a statement made on the command’s social media account, it was stated that CENTCOM personnel anchored at a temporary port established on the coast of Gaza in the morning to support humanitarian aid efforts for Palestinian civilians.
The statement emphasized that no US troops have entered Gaza, adding that “the aid is expected to be picked up from the beach by trucks carrying humanitarian aid within a few days.”
“The United Nations will receive the aid and coordinate its distribution in Gaza,” it added.
What happened? On May 8, the US Department of Defense announced the completion of the construction of the temporary port planned to be built on the sea on the Gaza coast in order to deliver humanitarian aid by sea.
Since October 7, 35,173 Palestinians, including 14,944 children and 9,849 women, have been killed and 79,61 people have been injured in Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip.
While thousands of dead are still reported to be under the rubble, civilian infrastructure is also being destroyed by targeting hospitals and educational institutions where people take shelter.
