At least 40 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the tents of displaced Palestinians in Rafah in the Gaza Strip after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered a halt to the attacks.
According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, Israeli warplanes bombed the tents of displaced Palestinians living near the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warehouses northwest of Rafah.
At least 40 Palestinians were killed in the attack.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said in a statement that medical teams took the bodies of many Palestinians, including women and children, and the wounded to hospitals.
Eyewitnesses said, “The shelling by the Israeli army caused the destruction and burning of many tents in the camp. This camp is not located in Rafah city, where thousands of displaced Palestinians live, in an area that the Israeli army wants to be evacuated.”
At least 8 rocket attacks
Witnesses said that Israeli warplanes attacked the camp with at least 8 rockets.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Health in Gaza, “Israeli warplanes mercilessly bombed a camp for displaced Palestinians northwest of Rafah city, killing and injuring many Palestinians. The search for the missing continues.”
In new injunctions issued on May 24, the ICJ ordered Israel to immediately halt its attacks on Rafah, stop blocking humanitarian aid and allow UN officials to enter Gaza to investigate its crimes.
Since October 7, 35,984 Palestinians, including at least 15,239 children and 10,93 women, have been killed and 80,643 people have been injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
While it is reported that there are still thousands of dead under the rubble, civilian infrastructure is also destroyed by targeting hospitals and educational institutions where people take shelter.
