Heavy rains in Kenya since mid-April have plunged the country into disaster. According to the statement made by Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura to the press, the death toll caused by floods rose to 277. About 411 thousand people were affected and 56 thousand families had to leave their homes.
With the damage to health centers in the country, epidemics also emerged; 53 cases of cholera were detected. Agricultural land and livestock have also been damaged by the floods. The government has set up 167 camps to help those affected by the floods.
In addition to East African countries, Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia, Somalia, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo have been affected by floods caused by heavy rains. In Kenya, the disaster deepened with the loss of 267 lives. Floods in 42 regions caused serious damage to 900 workplaces, 2,000 schools, water sources and health facilities.
Kenya Meteorological Department announced that the intensity of the rainfall will continue to decrease.
