A fire broke out in a marina in northwestern Croatia, destroying 22 boats.

A fire broke out at a marina on the touristy Istria Peninsula on Croatia’s Adriatic coast at 03.55 local time. Fire brigades were quickly dispatched to the area, but the flames spread in a short time due to the wind.

Some boat owners escaped by jumping into the sea

According to Croatian media, some boat owners jumped into the sea to escape the fire, while firefighters made great efforts to rescue boats that had not yet reached the flames.

The fire was brought under control around 07.00. The Croatian Civil Protection Directorate reported that 22 boats were completely burned in the fire. Barriers were placed in the sea to prevent environmental damage.

An investigation was launched to determine the cause of the fire.
