Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar announced the signing of two agreements between Turkey and Morocco in the fields of energy and mining.

According to a statement released by the Ministry, Bayraktar held head-to-head and delegation meetings with Leila Benali, Moroccan Minister of Energy Transformation and Sustainable Development, within the scope of official contacts in Morocco.

Following the talks, the ministers signed two agreements in the fields of energy and mining. It was noted that the agreements aim to develop the relations of the two countries in many different fields of energy, especially renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity, hydrogen, oil, natural gas, mining and critical minerals, and to realize joint projects.

The agreements aim to further the energy relations between Turkey and Morocco and to support the energy sectors of the two countries as well as their sustainable development goals.

Pointing out that Turkey has a serious capacity to purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG), Minister Bayraktar said, “Now Morocco is looking for solutions for this and we have expressed that we can be a solution to these. We mentioned that we can make a joint supply agreement together.”

Pointing out that a step has been taken to further the cooperation between the two countries, Bayraktar said:

“At the same time, Morocco has serious potential in the renewable field, both in solar, wind and offshore wind. Therefore, we talked about how we can mobilize this common potential together. Turkey has a serious capacity to buy LNG with the investments it has made in recent years. Now Morocco is looking for solutions for this, and we expressed that we can be a solution for them. We mentioned that we can make a joint supply agreement together. Therefore, there are projects that we can jointly develop in many areas such as green hydrogen and other new areas of energy.”

Underlining that they want to put forward concrete projects on these issues, Bayraktar said, “We will clearly reveal these with a technical committee that we will bring together at the beginning of July. Together with our public companies and private sector, we will reveal which projects we can develop here in mines and other fields. We will be in a work that will take the commercial relations of the two countries to a much higher point.”
