Morocco has reached a historic milestone, welcoming 15.9 million tourists in the first 11 months of 2024, according to the Ministry of Tourism. This figure surpasses the total arrivals recorded in 2023, reflecting a 20% annual growth. Tourism remains a cornerstone of Morocco’s economy, contributing approximately 7% to GDP and serving as a vital source of employment and foreign exchange.
Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor stated, “These exceptional figures validate the success of our tourism roadmap and bring us closer to placing Morocco among the world’s top 15 travel destinations.”
The surge in arrivals is attributed to Morocco’s strategic investments in the sector, expansion of air connectivity to major international markets, promotion of emerging tourism destinations, and modernization of the country’s hospitality infrastructure. Between January and October, tourism revenues rose by 9.3% to 97 billion dirhams ($9.72 billion).
Looking ahead, Morocco has set ambitious goals to further strengthen its position in the global tourism market. The country aims to attract 17.5 million visitors by 2026 and 26 million by 2030. Notably, Morocco will co-host the FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal in 2030. The event is expected to significantly enhance Morocco’s visibility on the international stage, boost its appeal to global travelers, and solidify its status as a leading tourism destination.
