World number one Novak Djokovic withdrew from the French Open due to a knee injury, losing his top spot. Italy’s Jannik Sinner is the new top seed in the men’s singles rankings.
Novak Djokovic was forced to withdraw from the French Open, one of tennis’ four Grand Slam tournaments, due to a knee injury.
The Serbian racket, who arrived in France as the world number one, has bid farewell to his 25th Grand Slam title for now after being diagnosed with a medial meniscus tear in his right knee.
The tear was detected during an MRI examination a day after tennis icon Djokovic suffered the injury during his five-set fourth-round victory over world number 23 Francisco Cerundolo, which lasted more than 4.5 hours.
In a development that shocked the tennis world, world number two racket Jannik Sinner of Italy secured the new top spot at the end of the tournament.
