In Isparta, the rose garden of Turkey, the rose flower harvest continues uninterruptedly. The roses collected in the early hours of the morning are delivered to the factories after being weighed at the scales. In the factories, rose oil and rose water are produced from rose flowers. A kilogram of rose oil, which is used in cosmetics and perfumery in the world market and rose to 12 thousand euros last year, is obtained from about 4 tons of rose flowers.
Gülbirlik Deputy General Manager Nafiz Koçak said that the harvest started early this year in Isparta due to the climatic conditions and added: “Roses are collected early in the morning every day and transported to our factories with our own organizations and transports and their journey to the factories for processing begins. The roses coming to the factory are subjected to processing in the early hours. They are transferred to the boilers to be boiled by our workers and subjected to a boiling process of about two hours and at the end of the day, we now produce roses as raw material.” Stating that the annual rainfall rate is low this year, Koçak said, “The rainy season is very important for roses. The fact that the rain feeds the rose means that the rose is of better quality and the oil ratio is better. Since this year did not catch the rainy season of last year, there were some problems in the region with frost and some hail conditions, which pulled the desired yields down a little. Stating that Isparta, where 65 percent of the world’s need for rose oil is met, has become a brand in the world in rose oil, Koçak said, “When it comes to quality, Isparta rose and Isparta rose oil come to mind. This is now the standard of the world. When we look at us, we have an annual production amount of the world. We also produce rose oil and rose confetti in the amount we have determined and planned for our customers and our own market. This year, we have made a production plan again in quantities close to last year’s amount and we are about to realize it. When you look at the end of the season last year, the market export prices of rose oil were around 12 thousand euros. This year, considering the economic conditions and some factors, I think it is expected to be above 12 thousand euros again. It is not right to give a clear figure right now, but we believe that it will be above 12 thousand euros. Because the indicators show this,” he said.
“We export to France, England, America, India and Japan”
Stating that the rose oil obtained is exported to many countries around the world, Koçak said, “France, England, America, India, Japan at certain intervals, but the most intense center of this is known as France. Because the biggest essence companies of the cosmetics and perfumes industry are located in that region, it is mainly exported to France. Exports are also made to these countries in certain amounts throughout the year.”
