President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke about the date of his return visit to the Republican People’s Party (CHP). Erdoğan stated that he will visit the CHP after June 9. Regarding the meeting with IYI Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu, President Erdoğan said, “There is no reason or reason not to meet.”
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the AK Party Headquarters on May 2 immediately after the March 31 local elections. The meeting between the two leaders lasted 1.5 hours. This was the first meeting between the AK Party and CHP leaders after 2016.
‘Empty chair’ at historic meeting
During the meeting, which was described as a historic meeting, the ’empty chair’ issue was highly discussed on social media. According to reports, CHP leader Özel pointed to the empty chair and emphasized that he did not find the seating arrangement correct and emphasized that this should be compensated.
However, the AK Party delegation emphasized that the empty seat did not have any special meaning, that it was due to the room layout, and that the protocol for meetings with other leaders or guests was applied.
President Erdoğan, in turn, turned to his Chief of Staff Hasan Doğan and told him that a return visit to the CHP Headquarters was necessary as soon as possible. Özel had expressed that he would be pleased with this visit
“It will be after June 9,” President Erdoğan said regarding his return visit to the CHP.
