CHP leader Özgür Özel welcomed President Erdoğan at the headquarters: New constitution and pension increases were on the agenda during the meeting on the 12th floor.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan paid a visit to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. Coming to the CHP headquarters after 18 years, Erdoğan arrived at 15.58 for the meeting that started at 16.00. Accompanied by AK Party Deputy Chairman Mustafa Elitaş, Erdoğan was greeted at the door by Özel and Namık Tan. The two leaders’ cordial demeanor and smiles drew attention. Erdoğan’s team also included Presidential Advisor Akif Çağatay Kılıç and Head of Communications Fahrettin Altun. During the meeting, which lasted about 1.5 hours, the new constitution, pension increases and current issues were discussed.
Mehmet Şimşek to brief CHP on inflation
The main agenda item of the meeting was the new civilian constitution. Increasing the revenue sources of local governments, the cost of living, candidates for various professions, especially teachers, who are waiting to be appointed, the abolition of the interview system for entry to the public sector, and the Gezi detainees were on the agenda of the critical summit. Özel also demanded that the lowest pension be raised to 17,000 TL and that the minimum wage be given an interim increase in July. Erdoğan, on the other hand, stated that any actions that would harm the medium-term program to reduce inflation would be avoided and that he was taking firm steps towards single-digit inflation. He also stated that Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek would provide information to the CHP if requested. Addressing the issue of trustees, President Erdoğan said that every mayor who serves the nation without discriminating between parties will be supported. However, he emphasized that mayors who use their authority to support terrorist organizations will not be allowed.

President Erdoğan also invited Özgür Özel to the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation. After the meeting, Özel convened the Executive Committee and briefed them. Erdoğan and Özel had their first meeting on May 2.
A flag with the Presidential emblem was hung in front of CHP Headquarters
Among the flags in front of the CHP Headquarters, a flag with the presidential emblem was also hung in honor of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit. The last time President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited the CHP headquarters was 18 years ago when he was Prime Minister, when he paid a visit to then President Deniz Baykal for the opening of the new building.
Özel welcomed President Erdoğan at the door
Extensive security measures were taken in and around the CHP Headquarters before the visit. No bird was allowed to fly in the area. Local and foreign press showed great interest in the visit. A corridor was set up for the press in the garden of the headquarters.
Likewise, television channels broadcasted the meeting live before and after the meeting. Before and after the meeting, both Erdoğan and Özel greeted the press members by waving. The red carpet and windows at the door where Erdoğan would enter were cleaned. CHP Chairman Özel welcomed President Erdoğan at the door. In the same way, Özel saw the President off to his car on his way out.
During the return visit, Erdoğan drank coffee while Özel drank purple basil tea. Purple basil tea became part of the menu after Özel became the chairman. Erdoğan presented Özgür Özel with olive oil and double roasted Turkish delight representing various regions of Turkey, while Özel presented Erdoğan with a piece named “Payidar Gondola” from Paşabahçe’s “Proudly” collection.
