‘Salmonella’ warning in foods before Eid al-Adha

With the arrival of the summer months, ‘salmonella’ bacteria, which are transmitted from food and drinking water, cause various infections and epidemics. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ceyhan, President of the Infectious Diseases Society, said, “The Feast of Sacrifice is also coming, my biggest suggestion is to think as if there is ‘salmonella’ in the sacrifice you buy. You should definitely pay attention to hand hygiene after slaughtering. The tools used should be cleaned immediately.”

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ceyhan, President of the Infectious Diseases Association, said that ‘salmonella’ bacteria are more common in the summer months. Prof. Dr. Ceyhan said, “Salmonella is actually a very common bacteria. Because it is transmitted from many sources. It is a bacterium found in the feces of both domestic animals, care animals and many animals you can think of. It can be transmitted especially when the meat of these animals is consumed. Sometimes it is transmitted through water and causes major outbreaks. Sometimes it can be transmitted through food and can be seen in the form of small outbreaks in a restaurant customers or a household consuming that food. But it is more common especially in the summer months.”
