In Sivas, street dogs killed 3 sheep and injured 15 others in a pen they entered.
In Sivas, stray dogs entered the barn of Serkan Çakar, a sheep and goat breeder, and attacked the sheep. The stray dogs killed 3 sheep and injured 15 others in the barn. Çakar went to the barn upon the sounds and chased the dogs away. Çakar, who experienced the shock of his life when he looked at his animals, said that tests will be done to find out whether the animals have rabies disease.
“They usually bit the tail and thigh parts”
Stating that stray street dogs usually bite sheep on the tail and thigh, Çakar said, “I have been breeding goats and sheep for 8 years. We woke up to the sound of dogs. The dogs came in from the garden. About 15 dogs attacked my sheep. When we arrived, we chased the dogs and immediately took care of our animals. Those whose wounds could be treated were treated immediately. We saved the ones we could save and slaughtered the ones we couldn’t. I have now contacted the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and they will conduct tests to find out whether the animals have rabies or not. I have about 80 animals in my barn. We separated about 20 of them and these 20 sheep were attacked. They usually bit the tail and thigh parts. Necessary precautions should be taken about stray dogs. They can attack people rather than animals. Measures should be taken,” he said.
