The United States Foresees Significant Potential in Côte d’Ivoire’s Meat Sector.

According to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Côte d’Ivoire’s meat market is projected to grow from $1.5 billion in 2022 to $2.2 billion (approximately 1,700 billion CFA francs) by 2027.

This expansion is expected to be driven by rising per capita meat consumption in the country. Currently at 31 kg per person in 2022, it is anticipated to reach 35 kg by 2027, fueled by urbanization and improving living standards. Poultry, in particular, is expected to account for $700 million of the market by 2027, representing a third of the total meat sector.

Additionally, government protectionist policies, such as a tax of 1,000 CFA francs per kilogram on imported poultry, are supporting the sector. The beef industry is also on the rise, with imports reaching $64.5 million in 2023, covering 40% of the country’s meat demand, while local production satisfies only a third of this requirement. Meanwhile, the pork market in the Abidjan region is gaining traction due to its affordability and integration into local cuisine.
