The Minister of Finance, Mr. Mahaman Ali Lamine Zeine, welcomed a delegation from the World Bank led by Mr. Han Fraeters, Resident Representative in Niger.

The Regional Director of Infrastructure for West and Central Africa, Mr. Franz Drees-Gross, stated: “We had a very productive meeting with the Prime Minister and his team, during which we discussed the energy sector extensively and what the World Bank could do to support Niger in a critical goal.” He added that “the goal is to increase electricity access rates. As you know, currently only 23% of Niger’s population has access to electricity, and we believe much more can be done to help the country enhance this capacity.”

Mr. Drees-Gross also mentioned in-depth discussions on electricity production costs and how the World Bank could help reduce production and transport costs. Additionally, talks addressed the improvement of specific segments of national roads RN1 and RN4.
