While the campaign for the treatment of Arya Öztürk, who has SMA Type-1 fatal muscle disease, continues in Gazipaşa district of Antalya, Arya’s donation piggy bank was found broken in a toilet by municipality workers in Mahmutlar neighborhood.
In order to contribute to the donation campaign of Arya Öztürk, the 28-month-old baby of Nurcan and Hamza Öztürk, who live in Gazipaşa, with SMA Type-1 fatal muscle disease, piggy banks were placed in workplaces in the region. While the struggle to keep Arya alive in the district continues at full speed, the donation piggy bank belonging to baby Arya was found broken in a toilet by municipality workers in Mahmutlar Neighborhood of Alanya District of Antalya.
“They are stealing my child’s future”
Stating that they had faced similar incidents before, Nurcan Öztürk, the mother of baby Arya, said, “Today we woke up with sad news. Piggy banks belonging to our daughter Arya had been stolen many times before. We are already having a hard time because we are racing against time. Our donation campaign approved by the governorship will end on August 14. While we are thinking about what we can do for our child in a limited and short period of time, we are also dealing with such unpleasant incidents. In this campaign, where even 10 liras is very valuable to us, this incident hurt us conscientiously. With what conscience did you steal the money we collected for the health of our tiny baby? You stole my child’s future. While we need to be strong, such incidents wear us down. Please let us be more sensitive and support our daughter.”
“We want my daughter to grow up like normal children”
Father Hamza Öztürk said, “In this campaign where even 10 liras is very important for us, I cannot understand how they can covet a baby’s piggy bank. We invite people to more common sense and sensitivity. While there is very little time left before the end of our approval by the governorship, while we are thinking about how we can finish our campaign faster in this limited time, how we can bring our baby back to health, it is not a good thing that these events happened to us. I would like to appeal to people with a good heart here, don’t reach out to such things. Support our campaign instead of blocking it.”
