In Antalya, a 21-year-old patient who survived with an artificial heart in the bag he carried in his hand was kept alive with the donated heart of a brain-dead young man.

Mehmet İncedayı, the son of Ramazan and Hava İncedayı, who live in Kayseri, was diagnosed with heart failure in the hospital where he went with infectious diseases and pneumonia.

Incedayı, whose condition increased despite the treatments applied, was implanted with an artificial heart 3.5 years ago. When the device of the young man, who had to live with an artificial heart while preparing for university, started to give problems, the patient was referred to Antalya.

After meeting with Prof. Dr. Ömer Bayezid, a faculty member at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, İncedayı’s name was included in the national and international emergency transplant list.

The life of the young man, who had to move to Antalya with his family, changed with a phone call at night. The donated heart of the 20-year-old young man, who was brain dead at Antalya Training and Research Hospital, was transplanted to İncedayı by Prof. Dr. Bayezid and his team at Akdeniz University Hospital.

Call for organ donation
İncedayı, who is being treated at the hospital, told AA correspondent that his heart disease did not give any symptoms and that he learned about it when he went for pneumonia complaints.

Stating that his relatives also had heart disease, İncedayı said, “I had been living with an artificial heart for 3.5 years. My device started to give problems. My Ömer teacher in Antalya said I needed an urgent transplant. When I was put on the organ donor list, I have been living in Antalya for 6 months. Thank God organ donation came out and my heart transplant was successful. My health condition is getting better.”

İncedayı said that he carries his heart with him like a laptop bag and that he always has to have spare batteries.

Emphasizing that he went through a difficult process but regained his heart with the transplant, İncedayı said, “I was carrying my heart with me in a bag all the time. After the transplant, I had a strange feeling, I forgot the heart’s working rhythm. Sometimes it beats thump thump, I get very excited. When you have an artificial heart, you cannot feel its beats like a normal heart.”

“My only dream is to train at Fenerbahçe’s facilities”
Incedayı stated that she has started her new life and wants to live a healthy and peaceful life and said, “I am a Fenerbahçe fan. My only dream is to train at Fenerbahçe’s facilities and meet Fenerbahçe football players. I want this very much. I hope I will have such a chance.”
