Donald Trump, former President of the United States and Republican candidate in the November elections, continues his anti-immigrant rhetoric. During his speech in New Jersey, Trump made a scandalous analogy about immigrants, referring to Hannibal Lecter, the serial killer character in the Oscar-winning movie “Silence of the Lambs”.

Trump described Hannibal Lecter as a “great person” and targeted migrants by quoting from the movie. Referring to the last scene of the movie “Silence of the Lambs”, he said, “The poor doctor says, ‘Excuse me, I’m invited to dinner with a friend. That friend was Hannibal Lecter. The late, great Hannibal Lecter,” he said.

Trump described migrants as “people we don’t want in our country” and warned that an out-of-control flow of migrants would destroy the country. At his presidential rally, Trump claimed that migrants are mentally ill and continued his anti-immigrant rhetoric throughout his campaign.

While this scandalous analogy once again emphasized Trump’s anti-immigrant policies, images of some of his supporters leaving the rally were also shared on social media.

Trump’s admiration for the Hannibal Lecter character had previously come to the fore. Mads Mikkelsen, the leading actor of the ‘Hannibal’ series adapted from the movie, commented on Trump, saying, “For some, Trump is a new wind”. In response to this comment, Trump expressed his admiration for the Hannibal character.

Trump continued his campaign by criticizing migrants through the character of Hannibal Lecter with a scandalous analogy he made at his presidential rally.
