Turkey’s unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 points in April compared to the previous month and became 8.5 percent. The number of unemployed decreased by 18 thousand people to 3 million 42 thousand people.
TurkStat announced labor force statistics for April today. Accordingly, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and above decreased by 18 thousand people in April compared to the previous month and became 3 million 42 thousand people.
While the unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 point to 8.5 percent, it was estimated as 7.2 percent for men and 11.1 percent for women.
Limited decrease in employment
The number of employed people decreased by 1000 persons compared to the previous month and became 32 million 618 thousand people, while the employment rate decreased by 0.1 point to 49.5%. This rate was realized as 66.9% for men and 32.5% for women.
Labor force decreased by 18 thousand people compared to the previous month and became 35 million 661 thousand people, while labor force participation rate remained unchanged at 54.2%. The labor force participation rate was 72.1 percent for men and 36.6 percent for women.
Latest situation in youth unemployment
Youth unemployment rate, which covers the 15-24 age group, decreased by 0.1 point compared to the previous month and became 14.5 percent. In this age group, unemployment rate was estimated as 12.2 percent for males and 19.1 percent for females.
Idle labor force rate increased
The idle labor force ratio, which is composed of time-dependent underemployment, potential labor force and unemployed, increased by 3.1 points in April compared to the previous month and became 27.2 percent. The combined ratio of time-based underemployment and unemployed was 19.7 percent, while the combined ratio of unemployed and potential labor force was estimated as 17.1 percent.
