In the US, President Joe Biden’s administration plans to send weapons and military equipment worth more than 1 billion dollars to Israel.

According to the US Wall Street Journal (WSJ) newspaper, citing government and Congressional officials, the Joe Biden administration has informed Congress to send weapons and ammunition worth more than $ 1 billion to Israel. The US news agency Associated Press reported that this military package includes approximately $700 million in tank ammunition, $500 million in military vehicles and $60 million in mortar shells.

First Shipment Package

The package sent to Congress is the first since the Biden administration halted arms shipments to Israel last week.

Arms Shipments to Israel Stopped

Last week, Biden said that he would stop arms shipments to Israel if Israel launched a large-scale ground operation in Rafah, a city in the southern Gaza Strip where more than 1 million Palestinians seek refuge. Biden stated that he postponed the shipment of 900 kilogram bombs to Israel, which were likely to be used in Rafah, and said, “Civilians in Gaza were killed as a result of these bombs.” Biden also admitted for the first time that US bombs were used to kill Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

US State Department Report

A report by the US State Department said that some US-made weapons supplied to Israel may have been used in Gaza in violation of international law.
