Murat Varol, who served in the press sector in Elazığ for 25 years and retired, started animal husbandry after receiving a guest on a television program. Varol, who established a chicken farm with a capacity of 30 thousand with the support he received from the state, has been actively producing for 7 years.
Murat Varol (64), a father of 4 children living in Elazığ, founded a local television station in the city with his partner in 1994. Varol, who served in the press sector for an average of 25 years, invited the director of a chicken integrated company to the television for a program. After learning about chicken breeding and farms, Varol decided to get into this business. Varol then applied to the Agriculture and Rural Development Support Institution (TKDK) and his project was approved after 2 years and received 65 percent grant support. With the support he received from the state, Varol invested 1 million 800 TL in Badempınarı village of the center and established a broiler chicken farm with a capacity of 30 thousand chicks. Varol, who left the press sector shortly after the establishment of the farm, has been actively continuing production for 7 years.
“I called him to the television program and he told me about the chicken”
Stating that he has been in the press sector in Elazığ for 25 years, Murat Varol said, “There were 2 televisions in Elazığ. I was both a partner and deputy chairman of the board of directors of one of them. At that time, Turan Karahan, the former director of TKDK, would constantly come to the program. He would say make an investment in animal husbandry. One day I invited the director of a chicken integrated company to the program. He told me about chicken. I said, “If what you are telling me is true, I will get into this poultry business.” I prepared a project, took it to TKDK. 2 years later, it was granted to me and I started this business. The state was giving 65 percent grant. I have been doing it since 2017 until today. I enjoy it very much. I wish I had done it before, because it is very nice to deal with animals. We provide a 7-star hotel service here. It comes as a chick and after 42 days it will come to our tables as broiler chickens. Hygiene is at the forefront,” he said.
“We served in the press sector for 25 years”
Stating that they take care of the chicks like a baby, Varol said, “I really enjoy this job. We served in the press sector for 25 years. We were hosting ministers and bureaucrats. The press sector is a different job. When I moved from there to here, it was as if there was a very big world on me and it was lifted. I was on my own and it turned into a peaceful story. I wish I had started a long time ago, I think it would have been more enjoyable if I had taken this job together with the press. Let our friends make an attempt, submit a file. Our state is really pioneering this work. Believe me, our poultry houses are much better than theirs.”
“I couldn’t have done it without state support”
Varol said, “I could not have done it without state support. I received a 65 percent grant. It is now an average of 16 million to build a coop. It is not possible to take 16 million out of your pocket and build such a coop. If there is no state support, no one can make such an investment. But since the state encourages this, it is easy. I also put solar energy on the farm, and that’s where I get my heating, so it’s very comfortable and everything is automatic. I built the poultry house on 23 decares of land. At the beginning, I made a project for 3 poultry houses. We realized the first leg. I will realize the 2nd and 3rd legs in the future. Currently inside
