The unidentified male body found buried in the ground after being murdered in Kütahya in 2006 turned out to be that of Erhan Küpray (33), who disappeared in Eskişehir the same year. The suspect in the 18-year murder uncovered by the special team formed within the Homicide Bureau of the Eskişehir Police Directorate Public Security Department was identified as Ahmet Kılınç (51), Küpray’s business partner and best friend, whose DNA samples found at the crime scene matched. Ahmet Kılınç (51) and his alleged accomplice Yaşar Ş. (61) were referred to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace after their interrogations.
Erhan Küpray, a resident of Eskişehir, was not heard from again after he left his house in 2006. His family filed a missing application after he did not return home. The searches conducted at that time yielded no results and Erhan Küpray was added to the list of missing persons. Eskisehir Police Directorate Public Security Department Homicide Bureau teams established a special team by re-examining the files related to missing and unsolved murders in the city.
DNA’S MATCHED; THE KILLER TURNED OUT TO BE HIS FRIEND
Police teams conducted investigations in neighboring provinces and found information that an unidentified male body was found in a village near the city center of Kütahya at the time of Erhan Küpray’s disappearance. In the file examined, it was understood that the male body’s head was crushed, the chest was wounded several times with a sharp instrument, the body was partially burned and his hands were tied with a tie. The special team, starting from the assessment that the male body might belong to Erhan Küpray, compared the traces and DNA samples at and around the crime scene with Ahmet Kılınç, Erhan Küpray’s best friend and business partner. When the traces matched in the DNA examination, Ahmet Kılınç and Yaşar Ş., who allegedly helped him in the murder, were arrested in Kütahya and brought to Eskişehir.
THEY WERE REFERRED TO THE COURTHOUSE
The two suspects, whose statements were taken at the Eskişehir Security Directorate Public Security Department, also denied the accusation and stated that they were Erhan Küpray’s best friend and business partner and argued that they had no knowledge about his murder. Ahmet Kılınç and Yaşar Ş., who were referred to the courthouse after undergoing a health check, answered journalists’ question “Do you feel remorse for all these years?” by saying “I didn’t do anything, why should I feel remorse?”.
During the investigation of the special team, it was determined that Ahmet Kılınç tied his business partner and best friend Erhan Küpray’s hands with a tie in 2006, stabbed him many times, tried to make him unrecognizable by crushing his head, tried to bury him in a location close to his own village, but the body was found in a short time because it was partially buried. Detained Yaşar Ş. was alleged to have assisted Ahmet Kılınç in the murder and burial. Investigation is ongoing.
ARRESTED
Ahmet Kılınç (51) and his alleged accomplice Yaşar Ş. (61), who were referred to the courthouse in Eskişehir for the alleged murder of Erhan Küpray, who had been missing since 2006 and was found murdered in Kütahya the same year, were referred to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace after their interrogations. The judge ruled for the arrest of Ahmet Kılınç and the release of the other suspect with a judicial control order. Kılınç, who is a forest cutting worker and is known to have 8 separate criminal records for fraud, was put into prison. The investigation continues.
